Version 1.4 – FireFox Support

Version 1.4 is now available and with it comes a few new features

FireFox Support

FireFox is now available as an alternative option to Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer has increasingly become harder to work with in recent releases so as an alternative option we now support using FireFox as an alternative to Internet Explorer.
FireFox is much more robust and stable for long term dashboard rotation and so we would recommend switching to FireFox if you have come across any issues using IE in the past.

To use FireFox simply open Dashboard Rotator and you will now see a dropdown box in the top bar where you can select either FireFox or Internet Explorer.

Version Requirement

FireFox based rotation has been built and tested on FireFox version 35 (The latest at the time of development).  We recommend using this version and turning off FireFox automatic updates to prevent any unexpected issues due to automatic upgrades.

Internet Explorer

The Internet Explorer “Resource In Use” error that has appeared in the past has been resolved with 1.4, how ever there are some settings that need to be set in IE for the new code to take effect.

  • On IE 7 or higher on Windows Vista or Windows 7, you must set the Protected Mode settings for each zone to be the same value. The value can be on or off, as long as it is the same for every zone. To set the Protected Mode settings, choose “Internet Options…” from the Tools menu, and click on the Security tab. For each zone, there will be a check box at the bottom of the tab labeled “Enable Protected Mode”.
  • Additionally, “Enhanced Protected Mode” must be disabled for IE 10 and higher. This option is found in the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog.

Window Position Memory

When closing Dashboard Rotator it should now store the last known screen position and open in the same place next time you run the app.

Disable Automatic Cleanup

This is an Internet Explorer only feature. There is a new checkbox on the interface that reads “Disabled Automatic Cleanup”.  This prevents the hourly Internet Explorer process restarts which is meant to keep memory consumption low.  Disabling this feature can assist with multiple screen layouts and new windows opening on the wrong screen after automatic restart.
